There is currently a casual vacancy on Ash-cum-Ridley Parish Council in the Hodsoll Street and Ridley Ward and we’re looking for someone who cares about our community to join us. Becoming a parish councillor is a rewarding way to make a real difference in your area

What Does the Parish Council Do?

Parish Councils are the first tier of local government, closest to the community they serve.

Represent the interests of local residents in most local matters; planning, highways and footpaths.

Maintain and improve local facilities such as Ash Green Sports Centre and Ash Burial Ground.

Support for local services and organisations, environmental and quality of life issues.

Act as a voice for the parish with other authorities.

The Parish Council meetings are held on the third Thursday evening of every month

.

Applications

If you’re interested in becoming a parish councillor, please apply in writing to the Parish Clerk, either in writing or email, with a brief summary of your background and why you would like to join the council.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must be:

At least 18 years old

A British, Commonwealth or EU citizen

Either:

Registered as a local government elector for the parish, OR

Have lived or worked in the parish (or within 3 miles (4.8km) of it) for the past 12 months

You cannot stand if you are disqualified under certain rules (e.g. bankruptcy restrictions or criminal convictions).

Whether you are new to the area or have lived here for years, if you are committed to making our community the best it can be, we would love to hear from you.
